On April 22, 2021 the City Council introduced Bill 2261 of 2021 that once adopted will amend the New York City Building Codes. The MPC would like to thank our members Leonard Williams (Plumbing/ Fuel Gas), Robert Bellini (Plumbing Fuel /Gas), Darren Lundin (Administrative); Richard Bonelli (Mechanical), Timothy Donohue (Administrative) and Edwin Vazquez (Administrative). Over the past three years, these members have volunteered their time to work on the revision of these Codes. They attended monthly meetings, as well as spent an immense amount of time preparing for those meetings. With the release of this Code, these members are once again meeting to make a final review and provide testimony to City Council. All NYC licensed plumbers owe a debt of gratitude to these fellow trades people for all of their hard work during this process. There are many substantive proposed changes that will affect our industry directly. While most of them are very beneficial some (the elimination of the Plumbing and Fire Suppression piping Contractor License Board) may have a negative impact on our industry. In the upcoming weeks, as we review the final text, we will be sending updates highlighting proposed revisions that we believe may need some further work.
