Buildings News - Deadline Extended for Mandatory Gas Piping Systems Inspections

Wednesday, December 30, 2020

Building owners in Community Districts 1, 3, and 10 in each borough now have until June 30, 2021 to complete Local Law 152 mandated certified inspections of exposed gas piping systems. Please read our full Service Notice.

Who does this extension apply to?

  • Certification deadlines are based on community districts. Buildings owners in borough Community Districts 1, 3 & 10 were previously required to complete the inspection requirements by December 31, 2020, but these community districts have been granted a 6-month extension.
  • To identify your community district, you can search by address at: communityprofiles.planning.nyc.gov.

What does this inspection certification cover?

  • To meet the inspection reporting requirement, building owners must submit to the Department a signed and sealed GPS2: Gas Piping System Periodic Inspection Certification via our online portal.
  • Buildings in the R3 occupancy groups or typical one- and two-family homes are exempt and therefore do not have to meet this inspection reporting requirement.
  • Failure to file the Gas Piping System Periodic Inspection Certification by the corresponding deadline will result in a civil penalty of $10,000.

More information on mandatory gas piping systems inspections can be found in our Frequently Asked Questions.

For Local Law 152 certification deadlines for other community districts, please see our previous Service Notice. For additional questions, email: LL152of16@buildings.nyc.gov.
